Connecting to Our Ancestors
November is a powerful time of year. There are many energies swirling around people, events, and the world at this time. It seems as though the “holiday season” starts earlier and earlier, causing stress and panic for many. Sometimes we may feel caught up in all that is going on around us and take little (or no!) time for ourselves.
November is the perfect opportunity to look within. As days become shorter, we are prompted to stay indoors and connect with our metaphysical bodies. One of my favorite ways to do this is through uniting with my ancestors.
Your ancestors have passed down thousands of years of generational knowledge to you. You may feel as though you have this information at your fingertips, or you may feel very distant from this realization. You may even fluctuate between feeling very connected and rather distant.
There are many ways to create and enhance a relationship with your loved ones who have come before. One is through the Ancestor Tarot spread (see below.) You can also set up a Connecting with Your Ancestors Crystal Grid (also below.) Both are deep and powerful ways to call forth the energy of your ancestors and connect with their messages.
Here are some other things you may want to try:
*Set up an altar: Creating an ancestral altar is a beautiful way to honor those who came before. Include what feels right to you in a sacred space. Many people choose to include photos, candles, flowers, and objects that the person(s) they are honoring loved. For example, my ancestral altar includes my grandpa’s favorite beer and a package of my grandma’s favorite cookies.
*Visit the graves of your ancestors: As this is their final resting place, it holds a lot of powerful energy and emotions. When you visit, you might want to bring something they loved or some flowers or candles.
*Gather for a meal: Invite your loved ones over for a special meal that honors your ancestors. You may choose to cook or bake foods that they loved, and drink beverages they enjoyed. During the meal, you can share fond memories of your ancestors.
*Write letters to your ancestors: Sometimes it’s easier to put things down in writing! You may find that crafting a letter to your ancestors is healing for you. Tell them anything and everything, and ask questions: their answers will come to you in the form of dreams and visions.
My hope for you is that whichever way you choose to connect to your ancestors is powerful, transformative, and full of positivity.
Namaste,
